Small flowers, less than 1/4 inch.Dense clusters.  Also called Perenial Knawel. 

No petals but green petal like sepals with a white band along their edge.

Leaves  simple and very thin.Appear whorled at nodes.

Native of central Europe and western Asia. Host plant of Polish cochineal, an insect used to make red dye in the middle agges.

Rural cemetary in Mecosta County, Michigan. Dry, sandy areas. 6/21
