Native, biennial. Also called Swamp Thistle. 

Up to 10' tall. Hollow stem.

Leaves are deeply lobed, narrow and nearly spineless.

Flowers are <1 1/2 inches wide. Spineless bracts,elongated with white stripe down the center. Cottony webbing between bracts.
