Invasive, biennial and non-native. Up to 7 feet tall.

Leaves opposite, unlobed and lance-oblong. Fused together around stem. ( perfoliate). Hairless, white midvein with a few prickles on underside midrib.

Stem: scattered white prickles.

Flowers on a spike 2-4 inches long containing hundreds of tiny flowers.
